QNAP NAS supports Fibre Channel SAN
Common Fibre Channel SAN (Storage Area Networks) are closed network environments, and their devices are often expensive while lacking deployment flexibility. QTS 4.4.1 adds support for Fibre Channel on QNAP NAS. By using a QNAP NAS with Fibre Channel connectivity, your NAS can be easily added to your existing SAN environment at an affordable price point. This allows you to leverage the many benefits from QNAP NAS including snapshot protection, Qtier™ tiering storage, SSD cache acceleration and more.
Transform your SAN environment with a budget-friendly solution
Replacing Fibre Channel SAN environments can be expensive and time consuming. But when using a Fibre-Channel-ready QNAP NAS, your existing SAN environment can gain a budget-friendly storage or backup solution. Not only is a QNAP NAS more affordable than typical SAN devices, but it also provides rich enterprise features to make storage applications more efficient. For example, you can use LUN snapshots to enhance data protection and disaster recovery planning.
Set up a Fibre Channel connection with the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app
You can easily add your NAS to a SAN environment. Once a Marvell®, ATTO® or QNAP Fibre Channel card has been installed in the QNAP NAS, you can set a Fibre Channel Target using the iSCSI & Fibre Channel app. In addition, the LUN Masking and Port Binding features provide an additional layer of security for your data.

The new Multimedia Console integrates all your favorite QTS multimedia apps
The Multimedia Console consolidates all of the QTS multimedia applications into one app, allowing easier and centralized multimedia app management. You can select source files for each multimedia application and can also set their permission settings.
Digital signature: trusted app installation
A digital signature ensures that the app you’re installing is from a reliable source and free from being tampered. Beginning QTS 4.4.1, every app in the QNAP App Center is digitally signed. When installing apps, QTS will check for signatures to ensure that apps are from QNAP or QNAP-approved publishers, protecting your NAS and data from being affected and manipulated by malicious programs.
Now, you can freely remove Qtier’s SSD RAID tier
In QTS 4.4.1, you can flexibly remove the SSD from the SSD RAID group to change/ add SSDs, change SSD RAID type or SSD type (SATA, M.2, QM2) whenever needed to enhance storage auto-tiering efficiency.
Supports Samsung SSD Self-encrypting Drives (SED)
QTS now supports Samsung SED (Self-encrypting Drive) SSDs (e.g. Samsung 860 and 970 EVO SSD), allowing you to leverage SSD’s built-in encryption functions without installing extra software or using NAS system resources to encrypt your data for an extra layer of data protection.
*Notes: SED only supports Opal encryption. For more information, please check the compatibility list.
